Water

In the islands, we collect our rainwater, filter it, and use it for bathing and brushing teeth!  So, please conserve.  If it runs out, we have to buy a truckload of water.  There is a Brita water system in your fridge for your drinking water, feel free to refill!

Electricity

Sometimes the electricity will go out without warning, this is just island life.  Do not be alarmed!  We have provided you with candles, a lighter, a flashlight and drinking water under your sink.  When the power goes out, please do not use faucets or the toilet because they will not work as we use electricity to pump the water out of the cistern.  You also have a solar charger in the closet which you can plug the included light bulbs into as well as your phone (usb plugs).

Trash

There is no trash pick up on the island so please bag your trash and take it with you.  There is a large metal bin across from “Love City mini Mart”, you can toss it in there.  There are also numerous metal trash bins throughout the island.

Internet

Internet is Garden of Eden Caribbean.  Password is: edencaribbean

Pools

Pools are salt water.  Please do not bring glassware to the pool, there is plastic dishware for the pool area.  Waterfalls are on a timer for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon.  Please be considerate of noise at the pool.

A/C

There is an AC unit in your bedroom.  Enjoy it! If there is a nice breeze, you will find that you do not need to leave it on all day.  Please turn off the AC when you are out of the cottage for an extended period.

TV

There are smart tv’s in both the living room and bedroom with Netflix installed.  Feel free to log in to your own Netflix account.

Towels/Linens

Pool and bath towels have been provided for you.  The white towels are for the bathroom.  Please do not take the white bath towels to the beach/pool.  If you need additional towels please let us know and we can swap them out.  There is a bottle of SHOUT under your sink. If you find you have soiled towels or linens, please SHOUT it out, and let Lorraine know asap so she can swap them out.  If we cannot get out the stains we do charge $10 per towel.  Black makeup washcloths have been provided to remove makeup.

Taxis

Taxis are difficult to get in Coral Bay unless they are pre-arranged.  There is no Uber/Lyft in St. John.  Please let Lorraine know if you would like us to reserve a taxi for you.

Bugs

We have 2 bugs that may cause you to itch during your stay, mosquitoes and “no-see-um’s”. We find that the orange can of Off is useful for these bugs and a can has been provided for you under the kitchen sink. “No-see-um’s” like to come out in the morning and at sunset time, so bring the Off to the beach if you go at these times. Try to keep your screen door closed to keep them out of the cottage.

Local Animals

You may hear or see some of our local animals, none are dangerous. Donkeys wander up our road and occasionally make loud screeching noises. Please do not feed the donkeys, and if possible keep your distance, they may bite! Deer also wander up and down our road but will run away from you. You will also see lizards, iguanas and the occasional mongoose. At night you will hear the coqui frogs making their lovely bird-like chirps.

Recycling

St. John does have aluminum recycling (but no glass or plastic so please minimize bottled water purchases), if you would like to recycle, please leave your cans in a bag in the parking area and text Lorraine at 340-514-9974 and she will take to the recycling center.
